Melissa's story ~ a journey to wellness
Introduction ~ Jaunita May, Your Family Naturopath
My own personal mantra and one I always mention to my clients is ‘your health is a journey, not a destination’. And what I appreciate mostly working in a health profession is the special opportunity to help others to make those changes they need to not only improve their general health and wellbeing but also to improve their quality of life. This is through providing clients not only with remedies and dietary advice but also educating them and offering encouragement to be inspired to learn more about their own health. This allows real change to take place when they can truly listen to what they need and how they can make healthy changes that are within their capabilities. Additionally, I love the opportunity to stay connected and be a solid support system, to ensure they know they are not alone through their healing journey.
One particular client always comes to mind when people ask me why I love doing what I do. I have had the honourable pleasure to be a part of and witness over the last 3 years how a person can change, blossom and continue to flourish. How improving her health led her to a whole new realm of opportunities. And this special lady is Melissa. She has recently shared her journey through her own blog and with her approval I can also share with you, to inspire you that regardless of where you’ve been and what you have, change can happen and at the pace, you need that’s right for you! Please note Melissa has expressed a lot of gratitude to me in this story, but from my perspective she owes a lot of it to herself. Melissa made the commitment to herself to not give up and to trust in the process and the continuing process of her health improving. Her mindset and positivity to me is truly admirable and I'm so bursting at the seams with happiness for her :D
Melissa's story ~
Since I was a little girl, I knew that I was just always going to be the big girl.
I grew to 5"10' when I was about 11 years old and fluctuated between 90 and 110kgs over the years. I just thought that was normal for me. But as I got older, I realised that I would have so much pain, bloating, gas and lethargy after eating food or drinking anything. I went to many doctors that just couldn't figure out what was going on. I had so many tests that hurt and didn't give me any real answers than before. My diet was considered quite healthy. I didn't drink soft drinks, eat junk food or sweets or drink much alcohol. One drink or so about twice a year. I just didn't know what was going on and I finally got to the breaking point. I broke down and felt like I just couldn't eat food anymore. Cue my wonderful neighbour who told me about her amazing Naturopath, Jaunita May from Your Family Naturopath. I didn't really know much about Naturopathy at the time but I was at the point where I would have tried anything. From our very first meeting, I knew that I had finally found someone who was just as invested as I was in my own health and wellbeing. Jaunita became my cheerleader and supporter right from the start and did so much to help me truly understand what was going on with my body, and how to help me.
Over the next few years, Jaunita helped me to understand my body and how to become truly healthy. She helped me when I had to have surgery in 2017 and made sure I had everything I needed to heal well and quickly.
She was also there for me whenever I would fall off the wagon and my mental health would take quite the dive in to depression and over eating the pizza and hot chocolates.
I'm not quite at the point where I can start flexing my muscles and take one of those 'before and after' photos, but I'm 20kgs lighter, my mind is much clearer and I finally have the energy to follow my dreams of working for myself and homeschooling my son.
The main issue I went to Jaunita for, was because I just couldn't eat food without pain, lethargy, gas and constipation. My monthly cycle was also extremely painful and heavy but I just thought that was normal. But after Jaunita introduced me to herbal medicine, I can now say that I only have one or two days of being off kilter with my cycle and then I'm right back to normal again. It's so amazing to me that my body is so much healthier and I can finally function so much better than I ever have before. I would never have been able to do everything I have without Jaunita supporting me the entire way. I'm still not 100% but I'm definitely well on my way.
Thanks so much,
Melissa Jane
